Jammu, Nov 05 (KNO): Amid heightened vigil, security forces personnel deployed at several forward locations along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir celebrated Diwali on Thursday.
According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Army soldiers deployed in the Akhnoor sector on the outskirts of Jammu participated in prayers and burst firecrackers, while similar celebrations were held by troops stationed in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
“They were seen lighting firecrackers, offering prayers at a temple and celebrating the festival with fellow soldiers while continuing their operational duties along the LoC,” witnesses told KNO.
The celebrations were also held against the backdrop of extensive security arrangements along the sensitive border areas, where troops continue to maintain round-the-clock surveillance to prevent any infiltration attempts or suspicious movement from across the border.
Security personnel deployed along the LoC and International Border remain on heightened alert, with surveillance strengthened through modern technological systems, including high-resolution cameras, drone-based monitoring and other electronic surveillance equipment, alongside conventional patrolling and observation posts.
Officials said the security grid remains active throughout the festival period, with personnel maintaining close coordination to ensure that celebrations do not affect operational preparedness.
“Our personnel are celebrating the festival while remaining fully alert and committed to their responsibilities. Security arrangements along the borders remain in place, and surveillance is being maintained round the clock,” an official said.
Meanwhile, Diwali preparations have picked up across Jammu city, where temporary firecracker stalls have come up at several locations. Residents have started purchasing firecrackers and other festive items ahead of the celebrations.
The festival is being observed by security personnel stationed in difficult and remote border locations, where troops often remain away from their families for extended periods while performing duties in challenging conditions.
For many soldiers deployed in forward areas, such celebrations provide an opportunity to observe the festival together with fellow personnel while continuing their responsibilities.
Security agencies have also maintained close monitoring of vulnerable stretches along the LoC and IB, with technological surveillance complementing ground-level security arrangements.
Officials said all necessary precautions are being taken to maintain peace and ensure that the festive period passes without any untoward incident—(KNO)
